How to share the cost of a villa

Choose a per-person, per-room or weighted split for the villa before booking. Record each person’s agreed accommodation amount and add shared food, transport and fees separately. Questions

Choose how to divide the accommodation before booking: equally per person, per room or with different weights for different rooms. Record the agreed amounts under the person who pays the booking. Add food, transport and other shared purchases separately.

Agree the villa split

  1. Choose how to price the rooms

Consider room size, private bathrooms and sofa beds. The unequal-room guide shows how to turn room weights into percentages.
  2. Record the booking and shares

Enter the payer and each person's agreed amount in Split. Keep refundable deposits separate so you can account for them later.
  3. Share the link and add other costs

Everyone can enter their own shared purchases and check the balances.

Couples sharing a room

A per-room split charges a couple for one room; a per-person split charges them for two people. Either can work if the group agrees. You can also weight rooms for accommodation and split shared food per person.

Cancellations and fewer nights

Agree what happens if someone cancels after a non-refundable payment. Also decide whether a shorter stay changes that person's share. The booking may cost the same either way, so the remaining amount needs to be covered.

When a spreadsheet is useful

Use a spreadsheet if you want custom formulas for rooms, nights and fees. Once the shares are agreed, a Split room can record those amounts alongside the rest of the trip's expenses.

Good to know

Peanut Split is free to use and has no paid tier.

Split automatically converts 156 currencies at the day's indicative rate. Your bank may use a different rate.

Pay each other by cash, bank transfer or another method you agree on, then record the payment in Split. Split does not move money or check with your bank.

Questions

How do you share the cost of a villa between friends?
Choose a per-person, per-room or weighted split for the villa before booking. Record each person’s agreed accommodation amount and add shared food, transport and fees separately.
Should couples pay double for one room?
It depends on the agreed method. A per-room split charges for one room; a per-person split charges for two people. Decide before booking and use a separate rule for shared food if needed.
What happens if somebody drops out after the deposit is paid?
Check the booking’s refund terms and the cancellation rule your group agreed. If the payment is not refunded, agree who covers it before changing the recorded shares.
