Expense limits and cost
Splitwise's help centre describes its free daily limit:
Add as many expenses as you need without hitting a limit (free users can add up to 4 expenses each day).
If you reach it, Splitwise suggests waiting for the reset or asking a friend to add an expense on your behalf.
Tricount's comparison page describes its service as “No ads, no limits”. Its homepage says:
Experience the easiest way to track group expenses, 100% free!
For a group entering many expenses at once, the daily cap is a useful difference to check.
Currency conversion
Splitwise supports expenses in different currencies, but its help centre limits conversion to Pro:
Only Pro subscribers can convert, but all group members will see expenses in their converted form.
It also explains the boundary of Simplify Debts:
If your group uses more than one currency, Simplify Debts works within each currency separately. It does not combine or convert balances across currencies.
Tricount describes automatic conversion on its homepage:

If you want several currencies converted into one balance without a subscription, Tricount's published features fit that requirement.

Splitwise offers iPhone, Android and web access. Its help centre says:

Where Peanut Split fits
Split runs in the browser and lets everyone add expenses through a room link without creating accounts. It is free to use, has no paid tier and converts 156 currencies at the day's indicative rate.
New expenses can queue on your device without a connection. Editing expenses and recording payments need a connection. Split suggests who should pay whom, but you make the payment separately and record it yourself. It does not verify with a bank.
Choosing for your group
Tricount is worth considering for its advertised free conversion and lack of an expense cap. Splitwise may suit a group that already uses its accounts and history or wants its Pro features. Split is an option if browser access without accounts is the main requirement.
