The published limit
Splitwise has introduced a daily expense limit for our free tier.
The Pro help page gives the number:
Unlimited expenses: Add as many expenses as you need without hitting a limit (free users can add up to 4 expenses each day).
These pages were checked on 31 July 2026. They did not specify an exact reset time.
Options if you reach the limit
Splitwise's help page suggests waiting until the limit resets or asking a friend to add the expense on your behalf. Make sure the expense still names the correct payer.
It also says Pro removes the daily cap. The annual plans described on that page include a Trip Pass that gives one chosen trip group Pro features for 30 days. Check whether someone in your group has an available pass.

Moving to Peanut Split
Split is free to use and has no daily expense cap. You can bring an existing group through its CSV export.
Import your group
Export from Splitwise
Open the group settings on splitwise.com and choose “Export as spreadsheet”.Review the import
Open the import page, select the CSV and review the warnings, room currency and balances.Share the new link
Keep the original group until everyone agrees the balances match. Then use the new room for further expenses.
Receipt photos do not transfer. A source file can contain up to twenty people. Older entries may be combined into “Balance brought forward” rows to fit the room's 500 expense entries.
When staying on Splitwise makes sense
If the limit rarely affects your group, waiting for the reset may be easier than switching. Check the features and history you want to keep before moving.
Split records payments but does not make or verify them. Pay each other using an agreed method, then mark the payment in the room.
