Choose what the split should reflect before doing the calculation: room size for rent, distance for driving, or each person's share of a bill. An equal split is also reasonable when everyone agrees the differences are small.
Rent
The rent split calculator divides rent using private room area and lets you adjust the weighting. Floor area is one starting point; you may also want to account for a private bathroom or different budgets. Agree those adjustments together.
Driving
The mileage split calculator multiplies distance by a per-kilometre rate and splits the cost among passengers. A mileage rate can include fuel and wear on the car. Check what your chosen rate covers before adding fuel separately.
Dinner and other shared bills
In a Split room, enter what each person paid and choose who shares each expense. You can enter unequal amounts when an even split would not fit.
For example, split the wine between the people who drank it and the food between everyone who ate. Record these as two expenses. The room then calculates each person's balance from all their payments and shares.
When an equal split is enough
If the rooms or orders are similar, an even split saves calculation. Check with the people paying before choosing it; a small difference to one person may matter to another.
